Christian Prayer for Coronavirus Fears: Standing Together When We Can’t Hold Hands
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.
None of us need to be told of the fear and anxiety facing the world right now due to the Coronavirus. What we must focus on, is the word of God. This is the time that the very words that God gave to us must be at the forefront. You may be suffering from feelings of panic, isolation, excessive worry, and your mind may be constantly fixated on sickness. You may even be imagining yourself or your loved ones getting sick with, or hospitalized with Coronavirus. Right now, this is common, and to be expected, as the world is concerned for their health. Chances are, the very next person whom you look at, is to some degree afraid, or even terrified. This is normal human reaction to a pandemic, or a fear as big as that which the Coronavirus has caused.
I spoke to an Operating Room Surgeon who is a dear friend to me. In conversation, it was apparent that even he was concerned for his health. We all know there is some “code” which says doctors cannot show fear. At one point, he stated that he knew he would get sick. This is not to frighten you. Rather, it is to remind you of the fears that everyone, including a hospital Surgeon, can face. Imagine that you are sitting home, shielded and taking precautions from getting sick. Now imagine a doctor, knowing there is no way to avoid entering a place that he may come very close to the germs that can make him sick. Suddenly, the fear would become very real to him. This is not the fear of the unknown, but rather the known, based on his perception. How we must remember to pray for people like him.
Do Not Be Afraid
Here is when we come to the point of the most critical reminder of all, which is not being mentioned on the news:
“Do not be afraid.” This phrase is mentioned numerous times in the bible.
We, as Christians, tend to easily become worried and for most, it is nearly impossible to just shut off the fear like a switch and say, “I’m no longer afraid, because God told me not to be.” Instead, a thought may pop into our minds of something like Coronavirus, and we may start to become overwhelmed quickly. We need to recognize that this is not abnormal, nor will we go to hell for being afraid when the Lord told us not to. Jesus knew the great fear of the people. Moses himself feared. But he, much like us, did not realize that this was not about himself. It was about God’s almighty plan. This is called God’s Sovereignty. And we must trust in Him especially during times like this. He must accomplish His Will, and we must pray in the meantime as He does what He needs to do, for His Own purpose.
Lam 3:37 Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has commanded it?
Prayer For Strength, Peace, and Healing
We must remember that nothing can happen without God’s permission. When we cannot understand the things which we are seeing in the world, we must trust the Lord without hesitation. Hold firm to your faith, and join together in prayer. Remember also what we are advised to do to remain in good standing with our Lord and Savior:
Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Please join together in this prayer, and be unafraid to have assurance of God’s promises. Be bold. Pray for God’s blessings, and thank Him for your health, and for his protection. Pray for strength for yourself and those afflicted. Let the Lord know your troubles. (Prov 3:5-6 ) It may be that the world has not known such fear in our own lifetimes. We must draw closer to Christ in our suffering, and do so in faith.
Prayer for Coronavirus for Christians & Those Seeking Hope
Lord, I submit to You in my hour of despair, fear, darkness and weakness. I read these words which were written by someone else, as I seek assistance in choosing the right things to pray for. Jesus, I recognize that I am not worthy of Your blessings or grace, as I am imperfect and have sinned against You. I recognize my own need for redemption in You. I know your promises are not deserved by any of us. Jesus, I know You are watching and see clearly what is happening because it could not have happened without Your permission. I don’t know what Your purpose in this is, but I know that all things under heaven are for Your purpose and glory. As your child, I ask that You see my ignorance and forgive me my sins, along with the sins of others, even if I do not know what they are. I ask for deliverance from fear, anger, pain, suffering and lack of faith. I ask for You to maintain my faith first and foremost, and provide me with peace, patience, love, and kindness towards others. Provide me with a sense of joy, even in the midst of fear, and help me to focus solely on You and the things of heaven. I pray, Lord Jesus, that you will abolish the sickness that is afflicting us on earth, and that Your mighty name be made known in a way that will bring Glory to You. I ask that You shield & protect me, my loved ones, and my enemies from this illness and come quickly to those of us who suffer for any reason. Please erase any ill thoughts that I have had about my enemies, and remind me that I am to forgive others as You have forgiven me. Teach me strength, and gently remind me when I am lacking faith, or when I fall into error and begin to fear. Let the world know that You are Savior to all, that they may come to You for deliverance. Jesus, allow me the ability to speak the words of my heart to You, and pour out my innermost thoughts and feelings, freely and willingly, so that I may be closer to You. I pray for the sick, the wounded and the lost. Let Thy Will be done, and please give us all strength in hardship, reminding us to seek refuge in you. You are the Way and the only Truth we can trust. Remind me to read more of Your Word, and study so that You may advance me in my Christian walk with You. Help me to stay away from things which cause me fear or pain. Please accept my humble and heartfelt appreciation for the grace You have offered me, even when I am but a sinful human being. Have mercy upon me, and provide me with the traits of your Holy Spirit which are pleasing to You, as I cannot do so on my own. I wish to be holy and be found with the righteous, and I submit all these things to You in humility. I pray these things in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
